Our Story
A Legacy of Creative Vision
The Haileybury Visual Arts Society was born from a shared belief: that art is not a luxury — it is a language. Founded by students who wanted a space to explore, experiment, and express, the society has grown from informal sketching sessions into a vibrant, structured community with a clear mission and identity.
Over the years, HVAS has hosted exhibitions, collaborated with faculty, and welcomed artists of every skill level — from complete beginners picking up a brush for the first time, to experienced creators refining their portfolio work. Our history is one of growth, inclusion, and an unwavering commitment to the visual arts.
Every great artwork begins with a single mark. Our society is where those marks become movements.

How We're Organized
HVAS follows a clear club structure that supports strong leadership, shared responsibility, and active member participation.
Faculty guidance sits at the top, the President coordinates the society with the chief advisor, the Executive Board manages day-to-day leadership roles, and General Members form the foundation by contributing ideas, energy, and participation across all activities.

The Chief Advisor
Role Overview
The Chief Advisor is a senior faculty member who serves as the society's guiding compass. They provide strategic oversight, ensure alignmentExpresssio with the school's academic values, and support the Executive Board in realizing the society's vision.
This role is the bridge between HVAS and the wider Haileybury institution — ensuring the society remains credible, well-resourced, and professionally run while giving student leaders the autonomy to lead.
The Chief Advisor attends key meetings, approves major decisions, and serves as a mentor to the President and executive team.

Executive Board
The Leaders Who Drive Us Forward
The Executive Board is the engine of HVAS — a team of elected student leaders who plan, organize, and inspire. Each role carries specific responsibilities designed to keep the society dynamic, inclusive, and impactful.
🎨 President
The visionary at the helm. The President sets the society's goals, chairs meetings, represents HVAS at school events, and ensures the team works cohesively toward a shared creative mission.
📋 Vice President
The President's right hand. The VP steps in when needed, coordinates cross-committee communication, and ensures projects stay on track from conception through to delivery.
💰 Treasurer
Manages the society's finances with precision and transparency — from budgeting for events and materials to tracking expenditure and seeking sponsorship opportunities.

The organizational backbone. The Secretary manages meeting minutes, internal communications, scheduling, and ensures the entire team stays informed and aligned at all times.

Leads the planning and execution of all HVAS exhibitions and showcases. From gallery layout to lighting, curation to artist selection — this role transforms student work into a professional display experience.
🤝 Membership & Outreach Officer
The welcoming face of HVAS. This officer manages recruitment drives, onboards new members, tracks membership, and builds partnerships with other school clubs, local artists, and community organizations.
Committee & Membership
Every Hand That Builds the Society
Committee Members
Committee Members are the dedicated members who bring HVAS's programs to life. Working directly under the Executive Board, they take on project-specific responsibilities — helping set up exhibitions, run workshops, manage social media posts, and support events on the ground.
This is the perfect entry point for members who want to develop leadership skills before running for an executive position. Committee roles are project-based, flexible, and open to all interested members.
General Members — The Heart of HVAS
General Members are the creative core of our society. They are the artists, illustrators, photographers, sculptors, and makers whose work gives HVAS its purpose and soul. Membership is open to all Haileybury students, regardless of experience or skill level.
